High-Powered Suction

High-powered suction is standard equipment in a modern dental operatory. High-volume evacuation removes water, saliva, and debris from the mouth during treatment, keeping the working field visible and dry. Because it draws air from close to the source, it also captures much of the aerosol and spray generated by dental instruments before it disperses into the room.

When It's Used

Cleanings and scaling — used alongside ultrasonic and piezoelectric scalers, which generate spray as they break up tartar.
Fillings and restorative work — keeps the tooth dry and visible while a handpiece or air abrasion is in use.
Polishing — pairs with prophy-jet polishing, which combines water and powder to lift surface stain.

Part of a Broader Approach
