Icon Procedure

Icon is a resin infiltration treatment used to manage early-stage tooth decay and to reduce the appearance of white spot lesions, the chalky marks that can follow orthodontic treatment or early enamel demineralization. Because the resin infiltrates the porous enamel rather than removing tooth structure, it offers a way to address these concerns without a drill or anesthetic in many cases. When Icon Is Typically Considered

Early smooth-surface decay — lesions caught before a cavity has fully formed.
White spot lesions — the discolored patches sometimes left after braces come off.

How It Fits Into an Exam

Icon is usually identified during preventive care, often alongside digital X-rays or an intraoral camera image that lets you see the lesion being discussed. Because no drilling is involved, it's a conservative option to weigh against watching a spot or treating it with a filling.
